John Hendricks: Obviously the history of Israel and Palestine, and the larger Arab world has been a huge topic the last 70 years or so. I just finished reading the “Six Day War”. What I found interesting was there was a great amount of Arab propaganda coming from the middle eastern governments. They were losing the war with Israel, and telling their citizens they were winning.

Propaganda to me that was done to a crazy level. It almost seems like not much has changed when it comes to the disinformation that’s propagated by middle eastern governments. The second and third effects of that leads to Arab citizens being mis informed, and these kinds of things lead to random attacks.

Elie Isaacson: Israel was mourning the death of four random civilians who’d gone out for dinner in a restaurant. They were killed by two Arab terrorists randomly. In Gaza there were street parties. They were handing out sweets to children, and lighting fireworks in celebration of this absolutely horrible cowardly attack.

Last week they showed a clip of a school play somewhere in Gaza. It was a Hama’s school. It literally shows these 7 year olds in an annual school play. The play shows these children dressed up as Hamas terrorist, and they were demonstrating how they kidnap Israeli soldiers, and kill them. In the end the head of the school walks in sort of brimming with pride, as these kids performed this amazing school show.

The entire crowd was clapping and applauding. This is the level of indoctrination and hatred that goes in within the Palestinian cities since their kids.  Forget the fact that Israel is the only democracy in the middle east, and it’s a country with civil rights and laws. When you grow up hearing that the truth has no consequences at all. So when these children become adults they have no problems stabbing random citizens in the middle east.

Lions of Kandahar, Bowe Bergdahl, D-Day Anniversary

GRP 30- On the 30th episode of the Global Recon Podcast, I’ve had the honor of having on Retired Special Forces Major Rusty Bradley. MAJ Rusty Bradley served 21 years in the US Army and US Special Forces. He was recently medically retirement for wounds received in combat. He is the author of the bestselling book “Lions of Kandahar” and has been published in Time magazine, Soldier of Fortune, Veritas, War on the Rocks and numerous other publications and blogs. He has earned 4 Valor awards from 3 different countries. Major Bradley is one of only 40 US service members in the history of the US military to receive the Medal of Valor from the Canadian Prime Minister.

Myself, and John Lovell discuss the Invasion of Normandy, and of the Army Rangers who scaled the 100ft cliffs at Pointe Du Hoc, under withering enemy gunfire, and were able to complete their objective of clearing out enemy fighting positions along the top of the cliff. Below is an excerpt from the interview with Major Bradley.

Major Bradley:Operation Medusa proved to insurgencies around the world that no matter how they fought they would be defeated once they fought on our terms. It’s important to understand that any insurgency must have the will and support of the people. If you separate the guerilla from the will and support of the people which is the auxiliary, and the underground no insurgency can survive.

John Hendricks: Now they have to fight you on a level playing field vs a hit and run tactics type of deal.

Major Bradley: Absolutely. Historically the first, and most well known guerilla commander was Hannibal when he was fighting the Romans. If you take away that ability for an insurgent to fight you then you completely changed the dynamic of the battle. The enemy had to face us. They moved in there in large numbers. People who are familiar to the Vietnam war this was compared to the Tet Offensive, when the Viet Cong, and North Vietnamese Army attempted to conduct large scale offensive attacks across Vietnam. In an attempt to degrade political, and home support for the war.

The Southern commander’s name was Mullah Abdullah Lang he only answered to Mullah Omar. He had amassed what they guessed was around 2,000 insurgents in Panjwai. They were moving people and resources from west to east into Kandahar city, and smuggling weapons and leaders from Pakistan into Kandahar with the hopes of over running all of the police stations, voting locations, and Afghan National Army bases. In their mind that would force the US to pull out of Southern Afghanistan. That failed because of Operation Medusa.

GRP 29- This nation has lost a piece of history in the quiet of the night. Master Chief (ret.) Tom Eagles was one of the most highly decorated Corpsman of the Vietnam War with service spanning three decades. Doc Eagles is responsible for a lot of changes in combat medicine over the past 50 years. He spent a number of years working with North American Rescue helping develop life saving equipment, and then having it integrated into the US Military. We have a former Special Forces Medic Chris on discussing some of his experiences in combat, and a brother who was killed overseas. Below is an excerpt from Chris. 

 Chris: My ODA was constantly called down to an area near the Pakistan boarder that the Taliban were giving trouble to a very isolated infantry unit Fobbed down there. We went down there with information that they’d been stashing explosive material in this old abandoned village. Stepped out of our vehicle’s, and immediately took small arms fire. Returned fire and they ran away. We advanced up the hill, and once we reached the top they trigged an IED. They buried it too deep, but it still injured some of my teammates.

One in particular got shrapnel all the way up his back. When I was treating him we called in the MEDEVAC we attempted to put him on a stretcher, and he said “Don’t you dare! I’m not letting these cowards see me on a stretcher on the way to the MEDEVAC”. So we walked him to the helicopter and he got on standing. We went right back out the next morning, got into another firefight ended up engaging, and killing the majority of the guys responsible for the IED attack.

Memorial Day, Army Rangers, Army EOD, AF Combat Search and Rescue

GRP 28- Today’s episode is a special Memorial Day tribute to our fallen countrymen from all wars past till present. There will be multiple post highlighting this episode, this is an excerpt from former Army Ranger John Lovell.

John Hendricks: What do you think about when you think of Memorial Day?

John Lovell: Today I’m thinking about Pat Tillman. Tillman was somebody I served with in 2nd Ranger Battalion. I didn’t know em well. Aside from just seeing him around I didn’t have much interaction with him. The reason I’m thinking of Pat Tillman today is because of the feelings his story represents to me now. I honor Pat as a patriot and a hero.

I think of those who were with him on the battlefield. Often times I think of whoever it was who killed him accidently by friendly fire. It’s a weird place that my heart goes to on memorial day, I think about how I would feel if I accidently killed my brother. I would rather prefer that I died instead. Friendly fire is a reality of war. I know how many veterans walk around wounded by the thought of that they failed their brothers. If only they’d fought a little harder, or fought a little better they could have saved their brothers.

There’s a lot of Vietnam vets, GWOT vets, that really wished that they had died instead, and their dying a little bit inside everyday because of it. Those that carry around a horrible burden I don’t judge these guys. I wanted any soldiers out there that are possibly carrying around shame, to those who feel they somehow let their brothers down. I cannot know this for sure, but I feel like if one of my brothers was responsible for my death on the battlefield I’d have forgiveness for them.

I’d say its part of war man, you did your best, there’s nothing more you could have done. Let go of your shame and live, live for me, or in you I’d die twice. On memorial day I don’t just think of the veterans who died, I think of the veterans who are limping through life still. My message is one for them.

GRP 27-The Warfighter Foundation, Security Contractor, RIP MSG Andrew McKenna

GRP 27-On this episode of the I interviewed Derek Pleimen who is an Army veteran, and a part of the Warfighter Foundation. We discussed Derek’s career in the Army, the mission of the Warfighter Foundation, and his recent deployment to Afghanistan as a security contractor.

John Hendricks: So you were in close proximity to Camp Integrity during the attack when Andrew McKenna was killed?

Derek Pleimen: Yeah our base was actually right beside Camp Integrity where Sergeant McKenna was at. It was around 10 o clock at night and we were just watching TV, and the explosion went off. It was a VBIED that started it off. They went right into the gate. After that they had actual suicide bombers run in. It sucks being a security contractor sometimes because our main job is to make sure our clients are safe. When that happened we were standing on HESCOS watching the entire fight unfold. We really couldn’t do anything about it unfortunately.

We wanted to help, but our bosses wouldn’t let us go, plus we had no comms with the base. We were expecting to be attacked next but it never came. It was a pretty rough night.  It was an intense firefight that lasted a few hours unfortunately a great man was killed in Master Sgt. Andrew McKenna.
